Both emerged when Italian democracy was in crisis. Both enjoyed vast popularity which appeared immune to scandal. Both were short and sturdy, peasanty. And both, had gargantuan sexual appetites as shown by the simultaneous publication of Gradisca, Presidente (Take your pleasure, prime minister) by the prostitute Patrizia D’Addario and the intimate diaries of Clara Petacci, Mussolini’s mistress on expiry of a 70-year secrecy rule on state documents. Even for Patrizia D’Addario, with years of experience as an escort, the number of women Il Cavaliere liked to have on tap was a shock: “I thought I’d seen a fair few things, but I’d never seen 20 women for one man. Només un sol home tenia dret a copular. Després del primer assalt, on va aconseguir la satisfacció plena, començàrem de nou. Jo mai havia viscut tanta passió pel sexe amb una dona. Vaig ser honesta quan em preguntà si havia gaudit. Òbviament s’ho va prendre com un repte i començà de nou. I més i més sexe.” El primer ministre era un perfecte cavaller l’endemà: “Cafè o te? La propera volta ens caldran més dones.” Mussolini jugava a la mateixa lliga. Li va explicar a Clara per què li era inconcebible dormir amb una sola dona: “Vaig conviure un temps amb 14 dones i en prenia tres o quatre cada nit, una darrera l’altra. Like Serbia Madrid is creating a new Kosovo case in Catalonia. Catalan President Montilla has lamented the unjustified delay in the sentence on the Statute of Autonomy and pleaded with the Constitutional Court -without a mandate and whose members were handpicked by the centralist parties PP and PSOE- to be fair and respect the will of the people expressed in referendum and by the Catalan Parliament and the Spanish Congress (Search Madrid Fears the Catalans):

“In the name of the historical responsibility that you have, do not break foolishly and imprudently with the openess and spirit of integration in the Constitution. I have absolute respect for the institution but let me warn you about the seriousness of the delay and the self-serving leaks on the sentence. The defence of the Constitution means first and foremost the promotion of this spirit of integration, plurality, openness and tolerance. Using the Constitution in the opposite way is to put it at grave risk. Those who hold the responsibility to oversee the constitutionality of our laws should never aim to destroy the open and tolerant nature of the text. The Magna Carta must be read in the generous way of those who voted for it. Everything that was written, agreed and voted on with the purpose to unite cannot be used today to divide. The preamble of the Constitution proclaims the protection and respect for all the peoples of Spain. A restrictive interpretation, which prevents a plural conception of Spain will be the worst disservice that cand be done to this Constitution. For the first time in its 30 years the Constitutional Court has been asked to judge a law validated by the Catalan people which structures our self-rule. This law is exceptional, as is the situation of the Court, so I ask their members for the maximum prudence and Statesmanship. The Statute of Catalonia is not exclusively our problem, nor simply our problem, but rather a question which affects first and foremost all the institutions of the State and all Spaniards. At stake is the future of Spanish coexistence accepting diversity. The present tensions are not just a new phase of the so-called Catalan Problem.”

Madrid està creant, com Sèrbia, un nou cas Kòsovo a Catalunya. El president Montilla lamenta el greu retard de la sentència de l’Estatut i demana al Tribunal Constitucional en funcions, amb membres nomenats a dit pels partits centralistes PP i PSOE, que faci una interpretació no restrictiva, respectant la voluntat del poble en referèndum i del Parlament català i del Congrés espanyol (Veure search Madrid tem els catalans):

“En nom de la responsabilitat històrica que tenen, no trenquin de forma temerària i imprudent l’esperit obert i integrador de la Constitució. Des del màxim respecte per la institució volia explicitar la gravetat pel retard i les filtracions interessades sobre la sentència. La defensa de la Constitució és, alhora, promoure l’esperit integrador, plural, obert i acollidor. Utilitzar-la en sentit contrari és posar-la en perill. Aquells que tenen la responsabilitat de vetllar per la constitucionalitat de les nostres lleis no han de malmetre, en cap cas, el caràcter obert i inclusiu del text. La Carta Magna ha de ser llegida des de la mirada generosa dels que la varen votar. Allò que hi va ser escrit, acordat i votat per unir no pot servir avui per dividir. El preàmbul de la Constitució proclama protegir i respectar tots els pobles d’Espanya. Una visió restrictiva, que barrés el pas a la concepció plural d’Espanya, seria el pitjor servei que es podria fer a la mateixa Constitució. Per primer cop en 30 anys, el Tribunal Cosntitucional s’ha de pronunciar sobre una llei avalada pel poble català i que configura el nostre autogovern. Davant tant l’excepcionalitat de la Llei com l’actual situació del Tribunal, demano màxima prudència i sentit d’Estat. L’Estatut de Catalunya no és un problema exclusivament nostre, ni principalment nostre, sinó una qüestió que afecta, en primer lloc, totes les institucions de l’Estat i tots els espanyols. Es derivarà el futur d’un projecte espanyol comú de convivència en la diversitat. L’actual situació de tensió no és només una nova fase de l’anomenat problema català.”

Zapatero’s EU Presidency: No Kosovo, No Trains

European Liberals got a dose of real Spain in their official visit to Madrid with ministers more concerned with flamenco and keeping European trains out of Spain than what they will do in their upcoming European presidency. Spain remains the only European Union country (plus Russia and client state Serbia) not to recognise Kosovo, as an angry vice-president admitted, because of Spanish fears Catalans will ask for the same treatment by Europe.

The meeting of the European liberal group with Spain one month before the Spanish European presidency turned into complete farce. Already on their arrival at the government complex of La Moncloa the police kept them waiting one hour, despite several former prime ministers among the twenty plus Euro-parlamentarians. Minister Bibiana Aido distributed her out-of-date cv as director of Flamenco Promotion. Vice-president De la Vega was visibly irritated when British MEP Andrew Duff asked her when Kosovo would be recognised. Spain has not done so fearful that Catalans will demand from the European Union the same treatment of a referendum on independence. Minister Miguel Sebastian said no more barriers needed to be broken in Europe, referring to the Spanish train gauge “because all this has been technically overcome.”

Els liberals europeus han patit de valent l’Espanya real en la seva visita oficial a Madrid amb ministres més preocupats del flamenc i impedir que els trens europeus no arribin a Espanya que en explicar què faran en la propera presidència europea. Espanya és l’únic país de la Unió Europea (més Rússia i Sèrbia) que no reconeix Kòsovo, com admetia la furiosa vicepresidenta del govern per la por espanyola que els catalans no demanin el mateix tractem d’Europa.

La trobada del grup liberal europeu amb Espanya un mes abans de la presidència europea va ser tota una comèdia. Només arribar a la seu del govern central a Madrid, la Moncloa, la policia els va retenir més d’una hora, tot i els antics primers ministres entre la vintena d’eurodiputats. La ministra Bibiana Aído es va equivocar de curriculum, entregant el de directora del Desenvolupament del Flamenc. La vicepresidenta De la Vega es va irritar amb l’anglès Andrew Duff que li preguntava quan reconeixeria Kosovo. Espanya no ho fa perquè té por que els catalans demanin a la Unió Europea el mateix referèndum de independència. El ministre Miguel Sebastián va dir que no cal trencar més barreres a Europa canviant la via de tren “perquè tot aixó està tècnicament superat.”

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin explains in her new book Going Rogue why she chose not to abort her Down syndrome child and resisted the pressures women suffer to have an abortion.

Todd and I had always dreamt of a big family, but I could hear the critics: “That’s what we get for electing the first woman governor.” For a split second it hit me. No one knows I’m pregnant. No one would ever have to know. It was a fleeting thought, a sudden understanding of why many women feel pressured to make the “problem” go away. Sad, I thought, that our society has elevated things like education and career above the gift of bringing new life into the world. Yes, the timing of this pregnancy wasn’t ideal. But that wasn’t the baby’s fault. My doctor, Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, or CBJ, looked at me kindly: “You’re 43, so there’s a higher chance of certain abnormalities.” I wasn’t worried. I was healthy as a horse. CBJ said she’d like me to have an ultrasound scan. The technician said: “The baby’s neck is a little bit thicker than what we would normally see.” I had heard that that was a sign of Down’s syndrome. A whisper of fear tugged at my heart. I don’t think I could handle that. I was busy. Got to go-go-go. I’ve got a tough job and other kids who need me. I just couldn’t imagine how I could add a baby with special needs and make it all work. I had always flippantly declined the amnios before, since I confidently asserted I would never abort anyway. But this time I wanted to be prepared. When CBJ called, she said softly: “This child will be born with Down’s syndrome.” I was shocked beyond words. Shocked that this was happening. I just wasn’t ready. Don’t you have to be wired a little differently to be gifted with the ability to raise a special-needs child, a child who isn’t “perfect” in the eyes of society? Almost 90% of Down’s syndrome babies are aborted —so wasn’t that a message that this is not only a less-than-ideal circumstance but also one that it is virtually impossible to deal with? From the start, my husband was much more accepting and optimistic than I was. I learnt that these special kids most often bring joy into their family’s lives. They were affectionate, generous and cheerful. Children are the most precious and promising ingredient in this mixed-up world. Trig is no different, except he has one extra chromosome. After all my doubts and fears, I had fallen in love with this precious child. He just nestled softly into me as if to say, “Aaaah I’m here, Mom.” During the campaign I visited Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a slice of Americana, where I saw a woman and two teenagers whom I could not miss. The kids had Down’s syndrome. A boy and a girl. I reached over the rope and laid my hand against the boy’s face: “I want to get a good look at how beautiful my Trig is going to grow up to be.” That was a turning point for me. I realised that my Trig is part of a large and very special community. As it turned out, the number of special-needs kids and adults who began showing up at events was spectacular. It was one of the absolute best parts of the campaign. This connection was a kind of mutual acknowledgment that said, yes, their lives are precious. They’re worthy. And now we’re going to let America know that there’s no need to be afraid or hesitant. Instead, let’s work together to make this world a more welcoming place for everyone with special needs. It was after meeting all these amazing people that Todd and I proudly displayed the bumper sticker a very cool group from Arizona sent us. It read, “My kid has more chromosomes than your kid!”

La candidata republicana a la vicepresidència, Sarah Palin, explica en el seu nou llibre Going Rogue per què va escollir no avortar el seu fill amb síndrome de Down, resistint les pressions que les dones pateixen per avortar.

Jo i Todd sempre hem volgut una família gran, però ja m’imaginava els crítics: “Aixó és el que passa per elegir la primera governadora.” Per un instant vaig pensar: ningú sap que estàs en estat i ningú cal que mai ho sàpiga. Va ser un pensament fugisser que em va fer adonar per què tantes dones se senten pressionades perquè el “problema” desapareixi. Que trist, vaig pensar, que la nostra societat ha elevat coses com educació i carrera per sobre el do de portar una nova vida al món. Sí, el moment no era l’ideal per un embaràs, però aixó no era culpa del bebé. La meva ginecòloga Cathy Baldwin-Johnson o CBJ em va mirar amb simpatia: “Tens 43 anys, així que hi ha una probabilitat més alta de certes anormalitats.” No estava preocupada. Tenia una salut de ferro. CBJ va demanar-me que passés un escaneig ultrasó. La tècnica va dir: “El coll del bebé és una mica més gruixut de l’habitual.” Havia sentit dir que aixó era un síntoma del síndrome de Down. Un calfred va passar-me pel cor. No creia que podria enfrontar-m’hi. Estava molt enfeinada. Sempre en marxa, amb una feina exigent i altres fills que em necessitaven. No podia imaginar-me com podria sumar-hi un bebé d’educació especial i tirar-ho tot endavant. Sempre havia rebutjat massa segura fer-me el test d’amniosi perquè deia decidida que de totes maneres mai abortaria. Però aquest cop volia anar sobre segur. Quan CBJ em va trucar, va dir tota amable: “Aquest fill neixerà amb el síndrome de Down.” Estava muda d’espant. Aterroritzada que aixó em passés a mi. No estava preparada. No has de tenir unes capacitats una mica diferents per tenir el do de cuidar un fill d’educació especial, un fill que no és “perfecte” segons sentencia la societat? Un 90% de bebés amb síndrome de Down són avortats —tot un missatge que la situació no és gens ideal i pràcticament impossible de superar? Des del primer moment el meu marit va ser més positiu i optimista que jo. Vaig descobrir que aquests fills especials sovint porten felicitat a la vida d’una família. Són afectuosos, generosos i alegres. Els fills són l’ingredient més preciós i prometedor d’aquest món tan conflictiu. Trig no ho és menys, excepte que té un cromosoma extra. Després de tants dubtes i pors, vaig caure enamorada del meu preciós fill. Va simplement acotar-se a mi com dient: “Aaaah aquí estic mamà.” Durant la campanya de visita a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, exemple d’americanisme, vaig veure una dona amb dos adolescents que no podia ignorar, amb síndrome de Down els dos, noi i noia. Vaig estirar-me per sobre la corda per acariciar la cara del noi: “Deixa que et miri bé per saber com de bonic serà el meu Trig quan creixi.” Aquest va ser un punt de partida per a mi. M’en vaig adonar que Trig forma part d’una comunitat gran i molt especial. Va ser realment espectacular el nombre de joves i adults d’educació especial que venia als mítings. Fou de lluny el millor de la campanya. La nostra connexió era una mena de reconeixement mutuu que deia, sí, les seves vides són precioses. Són dignes. I ara aniriem a dir a Amèrica que no calia tenir por o dubtes, sinó treballar tots junts per a fer aquest món un lloc més acollidor per els que tenen necessitats especials. Després de conèixer aquesta gent tan extraordinària Todd i jo estem orgullosos d’exhibir l’adhesiu al cotxe que un grup molt despert d’Arizona ens va enviar i que diu: “El meu fill té més cromosomes que el teu!”

In 1894, the London Times forecast that by the 1950s every street would be buried under 3 metres of manure. The 1st international urban-planning conference in 1898 was dominated by manure. Unable to agree, or to imagine cities without horses, the meeting broke up -scheduled to last 10 days- after just 3. Then, almost overnight, the crisis passed. This was not brought about by government regulation but by technological innovation (Search The Mad Science of Global Warming).

New Yorkers made some 100 million horsecar trips by 1870. A single car required at least 8 animals. Horses were also employed to transport goods. By 1880, there were at least 150,000 horses in New York, producing 45,000 tons a month of manure. Manhattan stank with the emanations of putrefying matter. The streets were literally carpeted with a warm, brown matting. Farmers had been happy to pay for the manure, but by the end of the century stable owners had to pay to have the stuff removed. The problem just kept piling up until it seemed virtually insurmountable with predictions that by 1930 horse manure would reach the level of Manhattan’s 2nd floors. But with electrification and the the internal-combustion engine, there were new ways to move people and goods around. By 1912, autos in New York outnumbered horses, and in 1917 the city’s last horse-drawn streetcar made its final run. All the anxieties about manure had been misplaced. This Parable of Horseshit is offered by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner in SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance. The message is simple: “When the solution to a given problem doesn’t lie right before our eyes, it is easy to assume that no solution exists. But history has shown again and again that such assumptions are wrong. Just as equine activity once threatened to stomp out civilization, there is now a fear that human activity will do the same. Anxiety is unwarranted and uncertainty has a nasty way of making us conjure up the very worst possibilities. Technological fixes are often far simpler, and therefore cheaper than the doomsayers could have imagined.”

L’any 1894 el Times de Londres preveia que per 1950 tots els carrers estarien enterrats sota 3 metres de fems. La 1a conferència internacional de planificació urbana el 1898 va estar dominada pels fems. Al no poder arribar a cap acord, i incapaços d’imaginar ciutats sense cavalls, la reunió s’acabà als tres díes, quan n’havia de durar-ne deu. Però d’un dia per l’altra la crisi va desaparèixer. Slight arch from the waist, hands at his side. Obama’s handshake/forward lurch was so jarring and inappropriate it recalls Bush’s back-rub of Merkel. Kyodo News is running instead his appropriate and reciprocated nod and shake with the Empress, certainly to show the president as dignified, and not in the form of a first year English teacher trying to impress with Karate Kid-level knowledge of Japanese customs. The bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Republican Red State terms , but evoked weakness in Japanese terms. The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part. Obama’s later bow at Suntory Hall was much better. Correct angle, slight bow. His hands were still wrong but the physical tone was correct and appropriate. But if Obama can get the dollar to stop bowing to the yen I take it all back.”

Després de genuflexionar davant el dèspota d’Aràbia Saudí, el president Obama ara es plega en dos davant l’emperador del Japó. Un expert universitari sobre l’Imperi japonès ha enviat al corresponsal principal d’ABC a la Casa Blanca el seu anàlisi de la prostració del president Obama a l’emperador Akihito de Japó:

La seva reverència té precedents i tampoc és cap demostració de comprensió cultural. La darrera cosa que volen i necessiten els japonesos és un president americà que sembla dèbil. Desgraciadament sense voler, es miri com es miri, aixó és el que ha aconseguit. La reverència que feia després a la Sala Suntory fou molt millor. Angle correcte, lleu reverència. Les seves mans encara estan malament, però el tó físic és el correcte i apropiat. És clar que si Obama aconsegueix que el dólar deixi de prostrar-se davant l’ien retiro tot el que he dit.”

Professor Antoni Serra Ramoneda confesses his responsibility in not preventing the massive Palau de la Musica fraud. Unfortunately the taxpayer is left paying the €30 million plus bill and it is simply not enough to resign with no criminal responsibility at all for these worse than useless trustees (Search Publicly Subsidised Corruption):

“I admit and confess that I did not fulfill my responsibilities as trustee of the Palau Foundation. If no punishment I do at least merit a reprimand. First, for not demanding a simplification of the contorted structure key to the illegal plunder and the legal engineering which should have awoken my suspicions as a specialist in finance and accounting. Second, for not insisting on the presentation of detailed accounts in the annual meeting and accepting a merely social event consisting of a concert and the enjoyment of choice wines and gourmet meals. Third, for not spotting the more than obvious signs, such as the generous family contracts and the use of the hall for their sumptuous weddings. Something was rotten in Denmark. We were almost 150 trustees and we all hoped that the 19 members of the representative commission would do the supervision which was our own responsibility. We conveniently saw our appointment as merely honorific. By omission no one fulfilled his responsibilities in the entire governing structure of the legal mosaic set up around this temple of Catalan musical culture. We must pay the penance of resigning. We have no moral authority to criticise errors which we should have been the first to correct.”

El professor Antoni Serra Ramoneda confessa la seva responsibilitat en no parar el frau massiu al Palau de la Música. “Ho reconec, ho confesso. Jo no vaig encertar a complir amb les obligacions de patró de la Fundació del Palau. Si no un càstig, com a mínim una reprimenda sí que hauria de rebre. Primer per no haver reclamat una simplificació de l’alambinada estructura clau per als desviaments il·legals i una enginyeria jurídica que hauria hagut de despertar sospites a una persona com jo avesada en temes financers i comptables. Segon, per no haver exigit una rendició de comptes detallada en la reunió anual i permetre un acte purament social on s’escoltava un concert i degustava apetitosos àpats i vins. Tercer per no haver deduit indicis més que evidents, com ara la generosa contractació de parents i l’ús de l’edifici per als seus sumptuosos enllaços, que alguna cosa podrida podia haver-hi a Dinamarca. Al ser prop de 150 els patrons tots confiàvem que fossin els 19 integrants de la comissió delegada per la supervisió que ens competia a tots. Per comoditat veiem el càrrec com purament honorífic. Per omissió tots els òrgans de govern del mosaic jurídic muntat al voltant d’aquest temple de la cultura musical catalana no han estat a l’altura. Paguem la penitència, que seria dimitir. No tenim autoritat moral per recriminar errors que hauríem hagut de ser els primers a corregir.”

Ryanair’s O’Leary says two losers don’t make a winner. Below: The happy couple, Walsh and Conte, stagger to their seats after the BA/Iberia Happy Hour.

The merger between British Airways and Iberia will be bad for consumers by raising prices on their competing routes, said Michael O’Leary, CEO of low cost Ryanair: “I would characterize it as two drunks holding each other up on the way home. All you get when you put two high-fare loss-making airlines together is even higher fares and even bigger losses. I think it’s great for Ryanair’s business” (Search Paris and Iberia the Worst in the World).

If the preliminary agreement for the $7 billion deal gets the go-ahead from shareholders, the merger would create the world’s third-largest airline by revenue. BA and Iberia said that the merger would provide “enhanced scale to compete with other major airlines and participate in future industry consolidation.” O’Leary has long predicted consolidation in the European airline sector and said it will be left with four big carriers, of which Ryanair would attempt to corner the low-fares market: “We move towards our vision of what I think would be four large airlines in Europe: BA; Lufthansa; Air France and Ryanair. Ryanair will be the only one offering low fares and guaranteeing no fuel surchages. I don’t see any major Competition issues given that there’s very little crossover between BA and Iberia. But I think it doesn’t change much, it’s bad for consumers because clearly you put the two together they’ll jack up fares on routes where they compete. There has never been an airline merger in history that has not been about jacking up fares that’s why each of these mergers applies for antitrust immunity.” Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic said in a statement that regulators in Europe and the US need to be alert to BA’s growing dominance as it might not be in the consumers’ best interest: “The BA/Iberia merger will increase BA’s dominance at Heathrow with 44% of takeoff and landing slots this winter. It is impossible for any other airline to replicate their scale.” British Airways CEO Willie Walsh said that the merger was a necessary step in the face of major changes in consumer spending brought about by the financial crisis: “People need to realize, this is an industry that is under severe stress. This is an industry that has been hit harder than probably most as a result of global economic downturn. We’ve got to make changes we’re witnessing structural changes in consumer behavior. We believe that long-haul premium travel will recover when global economies start to recover.”

La fusió entre British Airways i Iberia serà dolenta pels consumidors al pujar preus a les rutes on competien, diu Michael O’Leary, director de la baix cost Ryanair: “Els veig com dos borratxos que s’aguanten drets mutuament de camí cap a casa. Tot el que resultarà de fusionar dues aerolínies d’alt preu amb pèrdues serà preus més alts i encara més pèrdues. Crec que serà fantàstic per al negoci de Ryanair” (Veure search París i Iberia els pitjors del món).

Si l’acord preliminar que puja $7 bilions rep el vistiplau dels accionistes, la fusió crearà la tercera aerolínia del món per ingressos. BA i Iberia diuen que la fusió donarà “una capacitat més gran per competir amb les altres aerolínies principals i forma part de la futura consolidació industrial.” O’Leary fa temps que prediu la consolidació del sector europeu d’aerolínies i creu que en quedaran quatre transportistes principals, dels quals Ryanair intentarà quedar-se el mercat de baix cost: “S’evoluciona cap a la meva visió del que seran les quatre grans aerolínies d’Europa: BA; Lufthansa; Air France i Ryanair. Ryanair serà l’única que ofertarà preus baixos garantint que no farà cap recàrrec de combustible. No veig cap obstacle per part de Competència donat que hi ha poca coincidència entre BA i Iberia. Però crec que poc canviarà i serà dolent per als consumidors perquè quan els deixin anar juntes pujaran preus a les rutes on competien. Mai hem vist a la història una fusió entre aerolínies que no sigui per pujar preus i per aixó el primer que fan abans de fusionar-se és demanar immunitat antimonopoli.” Virgin Atlantic també diu que els reguladors d’Europa i Amèrica cal que estiguin a l’aguait pel creixent domini de BA que no afavoreix els consumidors: “La fusió BA/Iberia augmentarà el predomini de BA a Heathrow amb un 44% dels slots de sortida i aterrada aquest hivern, impossible d’igualar per a qualsevol altra aerolínia.” El director de British Airways Willie Walsh diu que la fusió és un pas necessari de cara als grans canvis de despesa dels consumidors degut a la crisi financera: “Tothom ha d’entendre que aquesta indústria passa uns moments delicadíssims. Aquesta indústria ha rebut un cop molt més sever que d’altres amb la recessió econòmica mundial. Ens veiem obligats a fer canvis perquè hem patit una transformació en el comportament del consumidor. Confiem que els viatgers d’alt standing de llarga distància retornaran quan les economies mundials comencin a recuperar-se.”

Exiled Cuban writer Alberto Montaner and the son of the Nobel Literature Prize, the Peruvian journalist Alvaro Vargas Llosa –coauthors with Plinio Apuleyo Mendoza of the Manual of the Perfect Latin American Idiot– celebrated in Tegucigalpa the failure of Chavism and Castroism in Honduras. Obama keeps betting on a losing horse with his follow-the-leader to Castro and Chavez (Search The Honduras Crisis Seen From Guatemala).

 

Alberto Montaner said: “The Chavist push towards a political coup in Honduras has failed. I imagine that when Castro-Chavism realize they have failed to get what they wanted in Honduras with President Zelaya, most likely they will look for an alternative. The Caracas-La Habana axis will select a new leader to embody the frustrations of the Hondurans and finance him to the tune of $50, 100 millions or any amount necessary to set up a Third Way. A process of destabilization will ensue which may encompass selective terrorism or a guerrilla group. Any option is valid to produce a conflict they can exploit. The objective is that the growing violence generates a process of destabilization which inevitably leads to a situation where their political proposal seems a reasonable way out for an ungovernable country. This is the logic behind the political struggle of populism.” Alvaro Vargas Llosa added that the political crisis in Honduras is part and parcel of the battle that is taking place in Latin America between the forces of civilization and the forces of barbarism: “Honduras unexpectedly got caught up in this huge battle which was fascinating to follow from abroad. It was also traumatic and painful to see the way the continental tension was reproduced so to speak in a test tube. The fact is that at the moment everything points to the forces of modernity and civilization have the upper hand against the other side, which should fill the people with endless pride. But it would be a big mistake to believe the battle has ended. This battle goes on and we have to keep on fighting.”

L’escriptor exiliat cubà Alberto Montaner i el fill del Premi Nobel de Literatura, el periodista peruà Álvaro Vargas Llosa –coautors amb Plínio Apuleyo Mendoza del Manual del perfecto idiota latinoamericano– celebraren a Tegucigalpa el fracàs del xavisme y del castrisme a Hondures. Obama segueix apostant pel caball perdedor amb el seu seguidisme a Castro i Chávez (Veure La crisi d’Hondures vista des de Guatemala).

 

Alberto Montaner va dir: “El tirón chavista de toma de poder fracasó en Honduras. Yo me imagino que cuando el castrochavismo se convenza de que fracasó lo que quisieron hacer en Honduras con el presidente Zelaya, lo probable es que busquen una nueva vía. El eje conformado por Caracas y La Habana elegirá a un nuevo personaje que va a encarnar las frustraciones del pueblo hondureño e intentarán ponerle detrás $50, 100 millones o los que hagan falta para construir una tercera vía. Habrá un proceso de desestabilización, que puede incluir atentados selectivos, un grupo guerrillero. Cualquier camino que conduzca al conflicto lo van a utilizar. Se trata de que la suma de todos esos conflictos va a generar un proceso de desestabilización de tal naturaleza que llegará un momento en que la oferta política que ellos pongan delante parecerá la solución más razonable a un país ingobernable. Ésa es la lógica de lucha política del populismo.” Per la seva banda Álvaro Vargas Llosa inserta la crisi política d’Hondures en una batalla que es dóna a Llatiamèrica entre les forces de la civilització i les forces de la barbarie: “En Honduras de forma inesperada se quedaron atrapados de pronto en esta gran batalla y fue fascinante desde el extranjero, además de traumático y doloroso, ver de qué manera se reprodujo, así en laboratorio, esta tensión continental. El hecho de que por ahora todo indique que las fuerzas de la modernidad y la civilización se estén imponiendo sobre las otras es algo que tiene que llenarlos de un infinito orgullo. Sería un gran error creer que esta batalla se acabó. Esta batalla continúa y hay que seguir dándola”.

Only days after promising “rigour and transparency” the President of the Omniun Private Foundation refuses to give any numbers or what he has spent on credit cards and indirectly lets in a whiff of something rotten by slandering your editor who has fought against corruption since last century. Jordi Porta misleadingly signs off as president of Omnium Cultural never admitting whether Anti Fraud is investigating his Private Foundation (Search Anti Fraud Investigating Omnium).

The President of Omnium Cultural, Jordi Porta, might go to court against the former candidate to the presidency and secretariat Josep C. Verges, who has asked the Anti Fraud Office and the State Comptroller “to inspect” the books of Omnium Private Foundation since its creation in 2004 to prevent another Palau Case. In a letter received by Verges, Porta asserts that all the questions the former has on “numbers and the use of credit cards, etc., expose his moral and human character, and therefore I prefer not to answer. I have the feeling you suspect that everyone would behave like you would if you were in my place.” Porta warns that “I am not going to waste any more time in this absurd polemic”. In his first letter Verges feared a repetition of the Palau de la Musica Catalana scandal because the same lawyer Bergos who “set up and participated” in the Palau Foundation has also participated in the Omnium Private Foundation. Porta answers on this matter that it is “a formal declaration of intent to raise unfounded suspicions in the press precisely now when the scandal has broken about the actions of Mr. Felix Millet in the Palau de la Musica.” Porta considers “pure sarcasm” the statement by Verges that he wants the economic set up of the Private Foundation laid bare because of his concern for Omnium Cultural.

Només díes després de prometre “rigor i transparència” el president de la Fundació Privada Òmniun es nega en rodó donar cap xifra ni què s’ha gastat en targes de crèdit. Indirectament obra una porta a coses podrides difamant el vostre director, que lluita contra la corrupció des del segle passat. Jordi Porta mareja la perdiu al signar com a president d’Òmnium Cultural sense admetre si Antifrau investiga la seva Fundació Privada (Veure search Antifrau investiga Òmnium).

El president d’Òmnium Cultural, Jordi Porta, no descarta emprendre accions legals contra l’excandidat a president i secretari Josep C. Vergés, per demanar que l’Oficina Antifrau i la Sindicatura de Comptes “inspeccionin” els llibres de la Fundació Privada Òmnium des que es va crear el 2004 per evitar un nou cas Palau. En una carta rebuda per Vergés, Porta assegura que totes les preguntes que aquest fa sobre “les xifres, la disposició de les targetes de crèdit, etc. demostren el seu tarannà moral i humà, per la qual cosa prefereixo no respondre-li. Tinc la sensació que vostè sempre sospita que tothom actua com vostè actuaria si estigués al seu lloc.” Porta avisa que “no penso perdre més el temps amb aquesta polèmica absurda”. En la seva primera carta, Vergés temia que no es reproduís un escàndol com al Palau de la Música Catalana per què el mateix advocat Bergós que “va muntar i participava” en la Fundació del Palau també participa en la d’Òmnium. Al respecte, Porta indica que és “tota una declaració d’intencions que es recordi ara de difondre sospites infundades a la premsa justament en el moment de l’escàndol creat per l’actuació del Sr. Fèlix Millet al Palau de la Música.” Porta titlla de “pur sarcasme” l’afirmació de Vergés que vol conèixer la trama econòmica de la Fundació Privada perquè s’estima Òmnium Cultural.
