Prenafeta’s Black Hands

In Italy Tangentopoli was liquidated by the mani pulite in 1992. DC and PS, the two main government parties, simply disappeared. The scandal arising from judge Garzon is of gigantic proportions. Leaders of both main Catalan parties have been indicted in a particularly vile case of expropiated modest homes, tax havens and leading politicians. The entire Pujol era has been deeply hit by the arrest of Prenafeta and Alavedra (Search Pujol’s Corrupt Right Hand).
The former general secretary of President Pujol was de facto head of Jordi Pujol’s “black cabinet.” He represented the worst of his party CDC, the so-called “business.” This scandal may turn out to be a huge step forward for our democracy, already so cracked by corruption and by the leadership of people like Prenafeta with no moral qualities. I have heard him show sympathy for corruption, repeatedly damning the Italian judges of mani pulite. He hated prosecutor Antonio Di Pietro. “He has destroyed a country,” he said. PSC will expel “their” corrupt, but CDC has not been that clear. Pujol’s silence speaks volumes: There was corruption with his government because he holds exactly the same view as the one expressed so shamelessly by Prenafeta. He has learnt nothing with his incredible statement that he is ready “to pull the rug.” Corruption on one side does not make it admissible for all others.

El 1992 a Itàlia mani pulite va liquidar Tangentopoli. La DC i el PS, els dos grans partits de govern, varen senzillament desaparèixer. L’escàndol sorgit amb el jutge Garzón és d’unes proporcions gegantesques. Implica dirigents dels dos grans partits catalans amb una naturalesa particularment vil d’expropiacions d’habitatges modestos, paradís fiscal i polítics de primera fila. Tota l’etapa Pujol queda molt tocada amb Prenafeta i Alavedra (Veure search La corrupta mà dreta de Pujol).
L’antic secretari general de la Presidència va ser de fet cap del “gabinet negre” de Jordi Pujol. Va encarnar la pitjor CDC, la dita dels “afers”. Aquest escàndol pot ser un gran pas endavant per a la nostra democràcia, ja tan esquerdada per la corrupció i pel protagonisme de persones, com Prenafeta, sense qualitats morals. L’he sentit expressar clara simpatia envers la corrupció, maleint reiteradament els magistrats italians de mani pulite. Odiava el fiscal Antonio Di Pietro: “S’ha carregat un país.” El PSC traurà els diguem-ne “seus” corruptes, però CDC no ha estat tan taxativa. Que Pujol hagi callat porta a intuir una gran veritat: que hi va haver corrupció perquè ell en tenia una concepció ben homologable a l’expressada impúdicament per Prenafeta. No ha après gens amb les seves insòlites manifestacions que estava disposat a “tirar de la manta”. La corrupció d’uns no fa admissible la d’altres.

An anecdote: Neus’ father Toni worked as a cashier at Banca Catalana on Passeig de Gracia in the 70’s and early 80’s until his retirement. Well, one constant looming predatory animal on the scene in Pujol’s private game reserve was that ever ravenous wildebeest Macia Alevedra. Insatiable Macia would always show up at the cashiers just before midday feeding time to collect his lunch money. ” Bitllets Grans noi! Bitllets Grans!” he demanded snapping his fingers. On average he would skim about 10,000 pesetas per diem! Some appetite eh? Of course any errors or shortfall in accounting came out of the pockets of the poor cashiers at the end of any fiscal year. Naturally they were disgusted and furious with the situation but could say nothing. Everybody spread the losses as evenly as they could among each other. To avoid this the cashiers began to close out early and bundle the bulk of the money an hour or so before the 2:00 closing time leaving only a “managable” minimum in liquidity to be pilfered that couldn’t be accounted for. The cashiers got some coverage from their supervisors in juggling some of the missing money. Macia being an unimaginitive creature of habit would always show at pretty much the same time so this gave them some advantage but not always; it cost Toni about 10,000 pesetas a year on average or in terms of the day a half month’s salary. What collection of scumbags. My heart just bleeds for them. Please let’s do pull back all the blankets Jordi.
