Forbidden to Vote

An endless snake of voters in Catalonia ignore the threats of the Spanish government and of extremists like Vargas Llosa calling for the army to intervene. There was no army, but an army of voters. Below: More than 80% for independence. The first time Catalans could vote on their future since the military occupation by French and Spanish absolutists in 1714. Not good enough? Two million signatories for a real referendum under EU and UN supervision.

 

With democracy prohibitions seemed as dead as Franco, but it was only a matter of time. The Constitution of the State of the Autonomies recognised Catalonia surrounded by Fascist mindfields. The Transition to Democracy was not exemplary because Spain never denazified like Germany. The people are not sovereign in Spain. The State is, narrowly understood as the central State.

 

Since I was born, what I learnt most of Spain was that everything was forbidden: my name forbidden, Catalan forbidden, liberty forbidden, passport forbidden, military service that was not a punishment forbidden, writing without censorship forbidden. My personal prohibitions made me Jose for officials use only; I studied in Spanish with Catalan-speaking teachers and students; I was expelled from the university for founding the free Democratic Student Union; I obtained a passport in London from an anti-Franco consul; and I began to publish under the censorship of Franco’s Goebbels, the PP founder Fraga Iribarne. Spain forbade individually but also collectively: Catalonia was forbidden in the only Constitution sworn by the elephant King Juan Carlos, the Principles of the National Movement. Spanish Justice is not independent, rather controlled by the two corrupt parties that have shared power just like the conservatives and liberals of the 19th century, now renamed PP and PSOE. Who cares if the sovereign people, on paper, the Parliament and the Congress voted a Statute? The judges of the PP and the PSOE cut it into a mockery. Since that embarrassing 2010, which marks the end of the Transition, Catalans have rallied in their millions demanding a vote. Making the mockery worse Mocking derision, the central government of the PP with the unconditional support of the PSOE launched to forbid what is normal in any democracy: forbidden to vote. The Swiss vote federal, cantonal and municipal referendums every three months. Quebec voted when the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that democracy is based on the consent of the people and only then on the law. Scotland also voted thanks to the democratic tradition of the English who understand that a country is held together by consent and not by force. Spain, statist like Russia, fears free citizens. 80% of Catalans wanted to vote according to polls. When denialist Rajoy forbade a very democratic consultation, the Catalan people organized an equally democratic one on their own. It is not the central State that votes, it is not even the Catalan government that votes, but the sovereign people. If Spain wants a new vote with observers from the EU and the UN, delighted to hold it. Catalans want to be heard and respected, because in a democracy the people, not the State, is sovereign. The Transition to Democracy went into a coma in 2010 with the antidemocratic ruling of the Constitutional Court and died of inanition in 2014 with the abdication of the elephant King Juan Carlos and the forbidden vote in Catalonia. Today the two Madrid parties do not represent even half the population of Spain and in Catalonia less than 15%. 85% of Catalans reject the PP and the PSOE who control the entire Constitutional Court. What prestige is left in the hands of a corrupt justice? Franco forbade. Rajoy forbade. The sovereign people voted.

Prohibit votar

Més del 80% per la independència. El primer cop que els catalans han pogut votar sobre el seu futur des de l’ocupació militar pels absolutistes francesos i castellans el 1714. No n’hi ha prou? Dos milions de signatures per un referèndum de veritat sota la supervisió de la UE i l’ONU. Primera foto: Una cua sense fi de votants a Catalunya que fan cas omís a les amenaces del govern espanyol i d’extremistes com Vargas Llosa cridant a la intervenció de l’exèrcit. No hi hagué cap exèrcit, però sí un exèrcit de votants.

Les prohibicions semblaven tan mortes com Franco amb la democràcia, però era questió de fer temps. La Constitució de l’Estat de les Autonomies reconeixia Catalunya, rodejada per camps de mines feixistes. La Transició no fou modèl.lica perquè no es va desnazificar Espanya com Alemanya. El poble no és sobirà a Espanya sinó l’Estat, entès exclusivament com l’Estat central.

 

Des que vaig néixer, el que més sé d’Espanya és que tot era prohibit: prohibit el meu nom, prohibit el català, prohibida la llibertat, prohibit el passaport, prohibit un servei militar que no fos de càstig, prohibit escriure sense censura. Les meves prohibicions personals em convertiren en un José que només els funcionaris utilitzaven, estudiava en castellà amb mestres que parlaven català com els alumnes, era expulsat de la universitat per fundar el lliure Sindicat Democràtic d’Estudiants, obtenia passaport a Londres d’un consol antifranquista i començava a publicar amb la censura del Goebbels de Franco i fundador del PP Fraga Iribarne. Espanya prohibia en particular i també en general: prohibia Catalunya a l’única Constitució jurada pel rei elefant Joan Carles, els Principios del Movimiento Nacional. La justícia no és independent sinó controlada pels dos partits corruptes que s’han repartit el poder com si fossin de nou els conservadors i liberals del segle 19, ara rebatejats PP i PSOE. Què importa si el poble sobirà , sobre el paper, el Parlament i el Congrés, voten un Estatut? Els jutges del PP i del PSOE el retallen fins fer-lo una burla. Des d’aquell vergonyós 2010, que marca la fi de la Transició, els catalans s’han manifestat en milions demanant votar. Burla burleta, l’Estat central del PP amb el suport incondicional del PSOE, s’han llençat a prohibir el que és normal en qualsevol democràcia: prohibit votar. Els suissos voten cada tres mesos referèndums federals, cantonals i municipals. Quebec votava quan el Tribunal Suprem del Canadà va insistir que una democràcia es basa en el consentiment del poble i només després en la llei. El mateix ha passat a Escòcia perquè els anglesos tenen tradició democràtica i saben que un país es manté unit pel consentiment i no per la força. Espanya, estatalista com Rússia, té por dels ciutadans lliures. Un 80% dels catalans vol votar segons les enquestes. Quan el negacionista Rajoy ha prohibit una consulta ben democràtica, els catalans n’organitzen una igual de democràtica pel seu compte. No és l’Estat qui vota, no és la Generalitat qui vota, sinó el poble sobirà. Si Espanya vol una nova votació amb observadors de la UE i de l’ONU, encantats de tornar a votar. Els catalans volen ser escoltats i respectats, perquè en democràcia el poble,no l’Estat, és sobirà. La Transició va entrar en coma el 2010 amb la decisió antidemocràtica del Tribunal Constitucional i ha mort d’inanició el 2014 amb l’abdicació del rei elefant Joan Carles i la prohibició del vot als catalans. Avui els dos partits de Madrid no representen ni la meitat de la població espanyola i a Catalunya no arriben al 15%. El 85% dels catalans rebutja el PP i el PSOE que controlen tot el Tribunal Constitucional. Quin prestigi queda a una justícia en mans de corruptes? Franco prohibia. Rajoy prohibeix. El poble sobirà vota.
