Where did Pujol’s black funds come from? The economist Francesc Cabana, married to Jordi Pujol’s sister, has always denied that there was any black money in his father-in-law’s inheritance, as he ratified in front of the judge. From the beginning I thought as much, knowing Swiss banks which provide few facilities to multiply black money as Pujol argued to explain the growth of his modest inheritance. Unless the president of Catalonia worked overtime speculating with his little pile of Francs.

 

These Swiss Francs seem to have grown on their own, but when the central government in Madrid leaked that Pujol had a Swiss bank account and I asked in an open letter in Diari de Girona for his permission to investigate, Pujol could not declare his black money as corrupt PP allowed. He transferred it to Andorra where in no time Madrid found out: Andorra is a shared colony with France. Hence Pujol’s forced confession last summer with the tortured excuse of the inheritance. Years ago I used to hear a story about the disgusting enrichment of Pujol’s numerous sons who strutted through Catalonia like Gaddafi’s sons or Chavez’s daughters. By the way Venezuela’s dictator had an account in the English bank HSBC in Geneva with 12 billion! And he gave less than one million to the vice-president of Podemos who, true to his name, Monedero (purse), pocketed it. In dirty Barcelona the story went that Marta Ferrusola silenced his preoccupied husband, preoccupied not with Catalonia, but with the sons’ gold rings: «Do it for your sons.» Pujol was honest, but he looked away for love of his children or for fear of his parachute jumping wife falling all over him. This was the heart-warming story that took us in, both Francesc Cabana and myself until our eyes were opened with Pujol’s confession. I was also taken in by the «sale» of Destino in 1975 to Jordi Pujol when the despot Franco died. The snake-oil salesman Pujol believed a Marxist dictatorship would take over and to put himself in their good books he imposed a Communist editorial board that destroyed the magazine, the only successful coup d’Etat before democracy. When I wrote my shared biography with my father “Such an Unfortunate Country”, I went round and round on the strange operation without finding the key. One day in the Biblioteca de Catalunya, looking through my father’s papers I unearthed the secret contract of the Destino sale three and a half years before the “sale” was made public, where Pujol forced my father to pretend he was the owner under the banker’s orders. Without realising I found out, now I recall. One day I asked my father: «How come Destino talks so often and so favourably of the banker Pujol?» My father looked at me unsettled but he did not confess the truth. Some years back the French government commissioned me to study the Rhone transfer that Pujol promoted together with a French public company which had built a useless Rhone transfer to Montpellier to let the pieds noirs expelled from Algeria to build California in the Languedoc. The Midi French were indignant when I rejected the project. This was the time when Grenoble’s Olympic mayor was jailed for corruption with water and a young economist confessed to me that the same was happening in this case. A commission was the origin of the black money. It was no European ideal, but Switzerland that moved Pujol. The investigating judge should demand what money transfers were undertaken by water company BRL, upriver Rhone to Geneva and downriver Rhone to Pujol.

D’on provenen els fons negres de Pujol? L’economista Francesc Cabana, casat amb la germana de Jordi Pujol, sempre ha desmentit que existís diner negre de l’herència del sogre, com ha ratificat davant el jutge. Des del principi ja m’ho semblava, coneixent els bancs suissos, que no donen facilitats per multiplicar el diner negre com pretenia Pujol amb la seva discreta herència. Almenys que el president de la Generalitat fes hores extres especulant amb els seus franquets.

 

Aquests francs suissos semblaven haver crescut sols, però quan el govern central de Madrid filtrava que Pujol tenia un compte suís i jo demanava en carta pública al Diari de Girona que m’ho deixés investigar, Pujol no va poder blanquejar el negre com permetia el corrupte PP. El va enviar a Andorra on no ha faltat temps perquè Madrid ho sabés: Andorra és una colònia compartida amb França. D’aquí la forçada confessió de Pujol el passat estiu amb l’enrevessada excusa de l’herència. Fa anys sentia una anècdota justificant el fastigós enriquiment de tots els nombrosos fills de Pujol, que es passejaven per Catalunya com els fills de Gaddafi o les filles de Chavez. Per cert el dictador veneçolà tenia un compte al banc anglès HSBC de Ginebra amb 12 mil milions! I va donar menys d’un milió al vicepresident de Podemos que, fidel al seu nom, Monedero, se’ls va embutxacar. Doncs deien per Can Fanga que Marta Ferrusola silenciava el seu preocupat marit, preocupat no per Catalunya sinó pels anells d’or dels fills: «Fes-ho pels fills.» Pujol era honest, però tancava els ulls per amor filial -o per por que no li caigués a sobre la dona paracaigudista. Aquest era el conte corprenedor que ens empassàrem, Francesc Cabana i jo fins que obrirem els ulls amb la confessió de Pujol. També em vaig empassar la «venda» de Destino el 1975 a Jordi Pujol quan el dèspota Franco moria. El milhomes Pujol creia que vindria una dictadura marxista i, fent mèrits, imposava una redacció comunista que es va carregar la revista, l’únic cop d’Estat reeixit abans de la democràcia. Quan vaig escriure la biografia compartida amb el meu pare, «Un país tan desgraciat», donava voltes a l’estranya operació, sense trobar la clau. Un dia a la Biblioteca de Catalunya, remenant papers del meu pare, vaig finalment desenterrar el contracte secret de la venda de Destino tres anys i mig abans de la «venda» pública, on Pujol obligava el meu pare a actuar com si fos el propietari a les ordres del banquer. Sense saber-ho ho vaig destapar, ara me’n adono. Un dia li preguntava al meu pare: «Com és que Destino parla tant i tan favorable del banquer Pujol?» El meu pare em va mirar esverat, sense confessar la veritat. Fa uns anys el govern francès m’encarregava estudiar el transvasament del Roine, que promovia Pujol junt a una empresa pública francesa que havia fet un transvasament inútil del Roine fins a Montpeller perquè els pieds noirs expulsats d’Algèria fessin la Califòrnia al Llenguadoc. Els francesos del Midi s’indignaren amb la meva negativa. Quan l’alcalde olímpic de Grenoble anava a presó per corrupció amb l’aigua, un jove economista em confessava que el mateix passava aquí. Una comissió seria l’origen del negre. No era europeisme, sinó Suissa el que movia Pujol. El jutge ha de demanar quines transferències va fer aquesta empresa d’aigues, BRL, Roine amunt a Ginebra i Roine avall a Pujol.

The ranking Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, Raul Grijalva of Arizona, has written to seven universities about seven researchers who harbour impure thoughts about climate change. One of the targets Steven Hayward puts the spirit of the inquiry as: “Are you now or have you ever been a climate sceptic?”

 

Grijalva’s letters were prompted by the revelation that Wei-Hock Soon, a scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics whose work has been critical of the climate-change “consensus,” didn’t adequately disclose support for his research. The assumption of Grijalva’s fishing expedition is that anyone who questions global-warming orthodoxy must be harried in the name of planetary justice and survival. Proponents of climate alarmism demanding immediate action to avert worldwide catastrophe won’t and can’t simply let the science speak for itself. They have the least scientific temperament imaginable. Their attitude owes more to Lysenko, the high priest of Stalin’s politicized science, than to Mendel, the founder of modern genetics whose work was shunned by Lysenko. Roger Pielke of the University of Colorado, Boulder, has done work on extreme weather and he, too, is on the receiving end of one of Grijalva’s letters. Pielke seems a most unlikely target. It’s not that he doubts climate change. It’s not that he doubts that it could be harmful. It’s not that he doubts it is caused by carbon emissions. It’s not even that he opposes implementing aggressive policies — namely a carbon tax — to try to combat it. Pielke’s offence is merely pointing to data showing that extreme weather events haven’t yet been affected by climate change, and this is enough to enrage advocates who need immediate disasters as a handy political cudgel. It can’t be Apocalypse 100 Years From Now; it has to be Apocalypse Now. Pielke notes that neither hurricanes, nor floods, nor tornadoes, nor droughts have increased in frequency or intensity since the mid-20th century. The bible of the climate “consensus,” the U.N.’s IPCC admits the same: “There is not enough evidence at present to suggest more than low confidence in a global-scale observed trend.” It is impossible to scare people with methodological imponderables and projections showing far-off harms. So the nuances of the actual science have to be jettisoned for alarmist simplifications. The imperative is to show that climate change is an urgent public health, safety, national security, and environmental imperative. The head of the IPCC Pachauri has quit amid a sexual harassment scandal and noted in his letter of resignation: “For me the protection of Planet Earth, the survival of all species and sustainability of our ecosystems is more than a mission. It is my religion.” A project supposedly marshalling the best scientific evidence for the objective consideration of a highly complex and contested phenomenon, a religious commitment? People who run inquisitions may lack for perspective and careful respect for the facts and evidence. But they never lack for zeal.

El demòcrata en cap de la Comissió de Recursos Naturals de la Cambra de Representants, Raul Grijalva d’Arizona, ha escrit a set universitats sobre set investigadors que tenen pensaments impurs sobre el canvi climàtic. Un dels objectius Steven Hayward situa l’esperit de l’enquesta en: “És o ha sigut mai un escèptic del clima?

 

Les cartes de Grijalva foren motivades per la revelació que Wei-Hock Soon, un científic de la Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics que ha estudiat críticament el “consens” del canvi climàtic, no havia revelat tot el suport per la seva investigació. Els defensors de l’alarmisme del clima que exigeixen accions immediates per evitar una catàstrofe mundial no volen i no poden deixar que la ciència parli per sí sola. Tenen l’actitud menys científica imaginable. Més aviat la seva actitud recorda Lysenko, el gran sacerdot d ela ciència polititizada de Stalin, i no a Mendel, el fundador de la genètica moderna, menyspreat per Lysenko. Roger Pielke de la Universitat de Colorado a Boulder, ha treballat en temps extremats i ell també ha patit el pal d’una carta de Grijalva. Pielke sembla un objectiu ben estrany. No és que dubti del canvi climàtic. No és que dubti que pot ser perjudicial. No és que dubti que és el resultat de les emissions de carboni. No és que s’oposi a dur a terme polítiques agressives, en concret un impost sobre el carboni, per intentar combatre’l. El pecat de Pielke simplement ha estat senyalar que les dades sobre temps extremats mostren que aquests encara no han estat afectats pel cavi climàtic i això ha estat prou per enfurismar els partidaris que necessiten desastres immediats coma un útil pal polític. No pot ser una apocalipsi d’aquí cent anys, ha de ser apocalipsi ara. Pielke observa que els huracans, les inundacions i els tornados no han augmentat en frequència o en intensitat des de mitjans del segle vint. La bíblia del “consens” del clima, l’IPCC de l’ONU, admet el mateix: “No hi ha prou proves avui per a suggerir més que un baix grau de confiança en una tendència observada a escala global.” Resulta impossible espantar la gent amb incerteses metodològiques i projeccions mostrant danys llunyans. Així que els matisos de la ciència real han de ser tirats per la borda a favor der les simplificacions alarmistes. L’imperatiu és mostrar que el canvi climàtic és un imperatiu urgent per la salud, la seguretat i la protecció nacional i ambiental. El cap de l’IPCC Pachauri ha dimitit envoltat d’un escàndol d’assetjament sexual i ha remarcat en la seva carta de dimissió: “Per a mi la protecció del Planeta Terra, la supervivència de totes les espècies i la sostenibilitat dels nostres ecosistemes és més que una missió, és la meva religió.” Un projecte suposadament reunint les millors proves científiques per a l’avaluació objectiva d’un fenomen molt complex i disputat, és un compromís religiós? La gent que du a terme inquisicions poden mancar de perspectiva i de respecte curós dels fets i de l’evidència, però mai manquen de zel.

French premier Manuel Valls, son of an exiled Republican Catalan father and a Swiss mother, nationalised French when twenty, would never have become president in Spain. There are French-style and Spanish-style democracies. Valls defends discriminated minorities like the Jews but inaugurated with denialist Rajoy an electrical connection which discriminates against the Catalans of Spain. Just like Jews.

 

The high voltage MAT is a European project, constructed by two monopolies, REE of Madrid and RTE of Paris. There are also monopolies and monopolies. The Paris monopoly held public meetings, as is European law incorporated into French and Spanish Law, listened to the Catalans affected in France and buried the entire high voltage cable underground in its passage through the Roussillon, from Baixas to the Pyrenees. In contrast the Madrid monopoly REE has ignored all laws like a Spanish desperado. Laughing at the law, they cut up a single project into seven bits to avoid having to study real alternatives. While Frace built underground, in Catalonia REE applied the most outdated technology they use nowhere else. They buried the high voltage line at the Madrid airport. In the Basque Country they plan a 400 km submarine cable! In Catalonia one million trees felled, an absurd mountainous route instead of the normal option next to the motorway and no real choice in contrast to what they do at home in Madrid, or in the Basque Country. A submarine cable in Catalonia would be one third of the cost in the Basque Country! The Madrid monopoly REE despises Catalans. Their insolent Madrid-style brief to the Supreme Court is full of taunts at the Girona mayors and ecologists, and the CUP party, who simply demand what should be normal in a democracy, the rule of law. I went to the Supreme Court with 8 other experts, travelling on the TGV. The first lie is that the high voltage was essential. We did the entire route without using any high voltage! The MAT connected by M. Valls and M. Rajoy has an excess capacity of 93%. The Madrid monopoly, like the central government, have always admitted that it is an international connection. Their brief to the Supreme Court admits six times this is the case and, even worse, that “it is has not even been approved.” Europe does not accept the break up of a single project. What can be done now the destruction has taken place? In the case of the Rhone transfer, I advised the French government before it was undertaken not to carry it out. Now M.Valls finds himself with a fait accompli byMadrid. What can be done is to ease tensions. Girona airport should get the same treatment as Madrid airport and lay the cable underground. Likewise the towns. Since the high speed train is responsible for one third of the instability Girona, REE must compensate by renovating the low voltage net. Madrid is never far off, with or without high speed. We have all their monopolies strangling us, from paying the highest electricity price, preventing airport competition from our airports or using obsolete technologies, as obsolete as the Spanish suburban trains in Catalonia. The Madrid monopolies must learn to respect Catalans, democracy and the Rule of Law, like the French monopolies do. M. Valls should take the opportunity to tell some democratic and Catalan home truths to the denialist Rajoy.

El primer ministre Manuel Valls, català de pare republicà exiliat i mare suissa, nacionalitat francès als vint anys, a Espanya no hauria arribat mai a president. Hi ha democràcies a la francesa i a l’espanyola. Valls defensa minories discriminades com els jueus, però inaugura amb el negacionista Rajoy una connexió elèctrica que discrimina els catalans d’Espanya. Com si fóssim jueus.

La MAT és un projecte europeu, construit per dos monopolis, REE de Madrid i RTE de París. També hi ha monopolis i monopolis. El monopoli de París RTE ha celebrat reunions públiques, tal com mana la llei europea, incorporada al dret francès i espanyol, ha escoltat els afectats catalans de França i ha enterrat tot el cablejat de molta alta tensió al seu pas pel Rosselló, de Baixàs al Pirineu. En canvi el monopoli de Madrid REE ha tirat pel dret, o més aviat sense. Burlant-se de la llei, ha trossejat un sol projecte en set parts per evitar estudiar alternatives reals. Mentre França ho ha construit tot soterrat, a Catalunya REE ha utilitzat la tecnologia més antiquada que no fa servir enlloc més. Ha enterrat la MAT de l’aeroport de Madrid. Al País Basc proposa un cable submarí de 400 kms! Aquí un milió d’arbres talats, una ruta absurda per les muntanyes enlloc de la normal seguint l’autopista i cap alternativa que el monopoli REE fa servir a casa seva, a Madrid, o al País Basc. Un cablejat submarí a Catalunya seria una tercera part del cost al País Basc! El monopoli de Madrid REE se’n riu dels catalans. La seva resposta xulesca madrilenya al Tribunal Suprem va ple de burles contra els alcaldes i ecologistes de Girona, i la CUP, que simplement volen el que ha de ser normal en democràcia, complir la llei. He anat al Suprem junt a 8 altres experts en AVE. La primera mentida és que li calia la MAT. Hem fet tot el recorregut sense cap MAT! La MAT que endollen M. Valls i M. Rajoy té un 93% d’excés de capacitat. Tant el monopoli madrileny com l’Estat central sempre han admès que era una connexió internacional. La resposta al Suprem admet sis vegades que ho és i, a sobre, que “ni siquiera se ha aprobado.” Europa no accepta trossejar un projecte únic. Què podem fer ara que la destrossa ja està feta? En el cas del transvasament del Roine, abans de fer-lo jo vaig aconsellar al govern francès que no. Però M.Valls es troba amb el plat cuinat des de Madrid. Som a temps de rebaixar les tensions. Que l’aeroport de Girona rebi el mateix tracte que l’aeroport de Madrid i passi el cable soterrat. I per les poblacions. L’AVE crea un terç de la inestabilitat a Girona. Que REE compensi refent tota la xarxa de baixa tensió. Madrid no està lluny, sense Ave o no. Tenim els seus monopolis a sobre, pagant l’electricitat més cara, no deixant competir els aeroports o inaugurant tecnologies obsoletes, tan obsoletes com els trens de rodalies de Renfe. Els monopolis madrilenys han d’aprendre a respectar els catalans, la democràcia i l’Estat de dret, com fan els monopolis francesos. M. Can science be put back into climate science? The systematic misuse of statistics raises the question whether there is something else behind this constant manipulation. The theory of man-made climate change is no longer scientifically credible. Instead, what little evidence there is for rising global temperatures points to a natural phenomenon within a developing eco-system.

 

John Coleman, co-founded the Weather Channel: “The ocean is not rising significantly. The polar ice is increasing, not melting away. Polar Bears are increasing in number. Heat waves have actually diminished, not increased. There is not an uptick in the number or strength of storms (in fact storms are diminishing). I have studied this topic seriously for years. It has become a political and environment agenda item, but the science is not valid. There is no significant man-made global warming at this time, there has been none in the past and there is no reason to fear any in the future. Efforts to prove the theory that CO2 is a significant greenhouse gas and pollutant causing significant warming or weather effects have failed. There has been no warming over 18 years.”

William Happer, professor of physics at Princeton University: “No chemical compound in the atmosphere has a worse reputation than CO2, thanks to the single-minded demonisation of this natural and essential atmospheric gas by advocates of government control and energy production. The incredible list of supposed horrors that increasing CO2 will bring the world is pure belief disguised as science.”

George Orwell provided the antidote in 1944 when he commented on the fabricated lying during the Second World War: “The liberal habit of mind which thinks of truth as something outside yourself, something to be discovered, and not as something you can make up as you go along, will survive.”

Com pot tornar la ciència a la ciència del clima? El malús sistemàtic de les estadístiques planteja la questió de què hi ha al darrere d’aquesta constant manipulació. La teoria del canvi climàtic humà ja no té credibilitat científica. Més aviat les minses proves d’augment global de la temperatura senyalen un fenòmen natural disn d’un ecosistema en evolució.

Professor Christian Schlüchter has found, based on his analysis of fossil wood in the frontal face of glaciers, that Hannibal went mostly through forest, where now there are glaciers, at his crossing of the Alps. Glaciers have disappeared several times. It is not human activity but the sun the main driving force:

“A friend told me that I should prepare the public about taking leave of the noble image of the Alps with glaciers. In Hannibal‘s world the tree line was much higher than today and there were few glaciers. In none of the detailed travel reports from the Roman period are glaciers ever mentioned. Until the 90s, glacier research was limited to dating glacial advances and moraine volumes. What went on between the advance was forgotten Only half the glacier history was known. And suddenly I came across this wood, a few meters in front of the Stein glacier at Susten, worn down, as if someone had worked with a blunt ax at it. I immediately realized that this was evidence such as had never before been found and analyzed. The tree had to be older than the Little Ice Age (1400-1850). I had it dated in the laboratory immediately. It was just over 4000 years old. Shortly thereafter, I was with students in Val Malenco in Valtellina, where we ran into a little lake in front of a small glacier. The lake was dammed by a moraine from the Little Ice Age. In the erosion groove we found compressed sediments of another lake with organic traces. These were practically the same age as the wood on the Stein glacier. This meant that before the Little Ice Age, there was already a little lake, which was then covered by the glacier. Two years later I found numerous woods on the Unteraar glacier. Since then I have quite regularly found further evidence. Where the Unteraar glacier is today, were once green fields in a landscape with a wide and wild river. We also found many over 2000 year-old pieces of peat. Until then, the consensus was that the decline of glaciers began with the end of the Ice Age, with somewhat oscillating glacier tongues. Nobody bothered about what happened between advances. The reactions to my discoveries were virulent. Climate researcher Heinz Wanner said analysing wood and peat alone could not lead to any conclusions about the movements of the glacier. My findings had caught many experts on the wrong foot. The research on the rocky edge of the Rhone glacier caused a great sensation. We wanted to examine whether the newly revealed Rhone glacier rock surface was ever exposed to cosmic radiation. Was the glacier ever as small as today? The results were clear and unambiguous. The rock edge had been free of ice in the last 10,000 years for 5,800 years. The glacier was normally smaller than today. A year later we found at the head of Mont Miné Glacier in Wallis huge trunks. At the age determination we found that these trees have all died within a year. The year of death could be accurately dated to 8,195 years before the present. The oxygen isotopes in the Greenland ice show that 8,200 years ago there was a pronounced cooling. As a result most glaciers in Greenland advanced quickly. The movements of glaciers depend especially on the activity of the sun. Geological warming phases have always been intense, rapid and accompanied by disasters. Today we still find ourselves in an exponential increase in warming after the Little Ice Age. It is important to remember that the system is extremely dynamic and non-linear. The glaciers do not advance slowly, stay put for a while and then recede. Only bits and pieces of the story were known and it was not understood that the system was so dynamic. Mid 19th century was the peak of the Little Ice Age, when the glaciers had advanced the furthest. Then they fell back. In the 1980s there was again advance. Why did the glaciers recede after the mid-19th century, although the large increase of CO2 in the atmosphere came later? What tipped the earth in such a short time into a warming phase? Why were there in the 1880s, 1920s and 1980s renewed advances? Glacier retreat has been rapid. As catastrophic as at the end of the last ice age. But the system is not linear. Eventually climate research must answer the question of why glaciers retreated so quickly at the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850. CO2 plays a role, but you can not give it as the sole reason, without explaining why glaciers advanced in the 1980s. In addition, one would have to explain the role CO2 played at the major geological turning points such as 115,000 years ago. There were no people to blame then. Why was it colder? Why was it warmer 18,000 years ago? In the northern hemisphere, we are now in a phase of cooling trends. Nevertheless, the glaciers go back. Many are convinced that man is responsible. Our society is fundamentally dishonest. by speaking solely of a hockey stick, as if there had been a long period of constant temperature with an exponential warming in the last 100 years. It is actually a double-stick, because one would have to show also the increase in population. The connection between global warming and population growth has not done. It shows how little we know that we can not explain why the Alpine glaciers decreased at the end of the Little Ice Age. And why did the Little Ice Age even get started? Many scientists are today political hacks, no longer a true scientist involved in new knowledge and data. And this worries me. There are many examples in history of the failure of science, because of lack of courage. Another climatologist Thomas Stocker says we only have the choice between a global warming of two or four degrees, a comparable situation to what triggered the migrations that brought the Roman Empire to collapse. If the glaciers are gone by 2100, they will come back again, because the northern hemisphere is still in the Ice Age mode. The equilibrium line, that is the line between feed and ablation zone of a glacier, was at the time of Hannibal at least 300 to 350 meters higher in altitude than today. The average temperature was half a degree above that of 2005. Geologically current developments are not new. The lever of change is solar activity. In addition, tectonic movements and the shifting of the seasons in the northern hemisphere play a role. A trigger can also be volcanoes.“

El professor Christian Schlüchter ha trobat, basat en el seu anàlisi de llenya fòssil a la cara frontal de les glaceres, que Aníbal va anar en gran part per boscos on avui hi ha glaceres en la seva travessa dels Alps. Les glaceres han desaparegut repetidament. No ha estat l’activitat humana sinó el sol el motor primari:

“Un amic em va dir que havia de preparar el públic d’acomiadar-se de la imatge noble dels Alps amb glaceres. En el món d’Aníbal la línia d’arbres era molt més amunt que l’actual i hi havia poques glaceres. Cap dels reportatges detallats de viatgers l’època romana esmenten mai glaceres. Fins als anys 90, la investigació glacial es limitava a datar els avenços glacials i el volum de morrenes. El que passa entre avenços va ser oblidat. Només la meitat de l‘historial de les glaceres era conegut. I de sobte em vaig trobar amb aquest tros de llenya pocs metres davant la glacera Stein a Susten, desgastada com si algú l’hagués treballat amb una destral sense tall. Immediatament em vaig adonar que això era un testimoni com mai abans s’havia trobat i analitzat. L’arbre havia de ser més vell que la Petita Era Glacial (1400-1850). Ho vaig fer datar immediatament al laboratori. Tenia una mica més de 4000 anys d’antiguitat. Poc després estava amb els meus estudiants a Val Malenco a la Valtellina on veiérem un petit llac davant una petita glacera. El llac havia estat format per una morrena de la Petita Era Glacial. En el solc d’erosió trobàrem sediments comprimits d’un altre llac amb restes orgàniques. Aquestes eren pràcticament la mateixa edat que el tros de llenya de la glacera Stein. Això vol dir que abans de la Petita Era Glacial, ja existia un petit llac que després fou cobert per la glacera. Dos anys més tard vaig trobar nombrosos trossos de llenya a la glacera Unteraar. N’he seguit trobant amb força regularitat testimonis addicionals. On avui hi ha la glacera Unteraar, existien camps d’herba i un gran riu salvatge. També trobàrem molts trossos de troba de més de 2000 anys d’antiguitat. Fins llavors el consens era que el retrocés de les glaceres havia començat al final de l’Era Glacial, amb llengües de glaceres una mica oscil·lants. Ningú s’havia preocupat en saber què havia passat entre els avenços. Les reaccions als meus descobriments foren virulentes. L’investigador del clima Heinz Wanner va dir que analitzar llenya i torba per si soles no podi dur a cap conclusió sobre els moviments de la glacera. Les meves troballes havien agafat molts experts amb el peu esquerre. La meva investigació sobre la vora rocosa de la glacera Roine va causar una gran sensació. Volíem examinar si la superfície rocosa recentment exposada de la glacera Roine va ser alguna vegada exposada a la radiació còsmica. La glacera va ser mai tan petita com avui? Els resultats van ser clars i sense ambigüitats. La vora rocosa havia estat lliure de gel 5.800 dels darrers 10.000 anys. La glacera ha estat normalment més petita que avui. Un any més tard trobàrem davant la glacera Mont Miné a Wallis troncs enormes. Al determinar l’edat trobàrem que tots aquests arbres havien mort dins el mateix any. L’any de la mort podia ser datada amb precisió a 8.195 anys abans del present. Els isòtops d’oxigen en el gel de Groenlàndia mostren que fa 8.200 anys es produí un refredament pronunciat. Com a resultat d’això la majoria de les glaceres de Groenlàndia avançaren ràpidament. El moviment de les glaceres depèn sobretot de l’activitat solar. Les fases d‘escalfament geològic han estat sempre intenses, ràpides i acompanyades de catàstrofes. Avui encara ens trobem en un augment exponencial en l’escalfament després de la Petita Era Glacial. És important recordar que el sistema és extremadament dinàmic i no lineal. Les glaceres no avancen lentament, es paren un temps i després retrocedeixen. Només es coneixia una petita part de l‘historial i no s’entenia que el sistema era tan dinàmic. A mitjans del segle XIX fou el màxim de la Petita Era Glacial, quan les glaceres havien avançat més lluny. Després han retrocedit. En la dècada de 1980 hi va haver de nou un avanç. Per què les glaceres retrocediren després de la meitat del segle XIX quan el gran augment de CO2 a l’atmosfera va arribar més tard? Què va inclinar la terra en tan poc temps cap una fase d’escalfament? Per què es produiren en les dècades de 1880, 1920 i 1980 renovats avenços? El retrocés de les glaceres ha estat ràpid. Tan catastròfica com al final de l’última era glacial. Però el sistema no és lineal. Un dia o altre la investigació del clima ha de respondre a la pregunta de per què les glaceres es van retirar tan ràpid al final de la Petita Era Glacial al voltant de 1850. El CO2 juga un paper, però no es pot donar com a única raó sense explicar per què les glaceres avançaren en la dècada de 1980. A més, caldria explicar el paper que el CO2 ha exercit en els principals punts d’inflexió geològica com, per exemple, fa 115.000 anys. En aquell temps no hi havia gent a qui culpar. Per què va fer més fred? Per què fou més càlid fa 18.000 anys? A l’hemisferi nord estem ara en una fase de tendència al refredament. No obstant això, les glaceres es retiren. Molts estan convençuts que l’home és el responsable. Però la nostra societat és fonamentalment deshonesta al parlar exclusivament d’un pal d’hoquei, com si hi hagués hagut un llarg període de temperatura constant i després un escalfament exponencial els darrers 100 anys. En realitat és un doble pal, perquè caldria mostrar també l’augment de la població. La connexió entre escalfament global i creixement de la població no s’ha fet. Això demostra el poc que sabem. No podem explicar per què les glaceres alpines es van reduir al final de la Petita Era Glacial ni tampoc per què la Petita Era Glacial va començar. Molts científics estan avui polititzats i ja no són autèntics científics involucrats en buscar nous coneixements i dades. I això em preocupa. Hi ha molts exemples en la història del fracàs de la ciència, a causa de la manca de coratge. Un altre climatòleg Thomas Stocker diu que només tenim la possibilitat de triar entre un escalfament global de dos o quatre graus, situació comparable a la que va provocar les migracions que dugueren a la caiguda de l’Imperi Romà. Si les glaceres han desaparegut d’aquí al 2100, tornaran de nou pel fet que l’hemisferi nord es troba encara en la fase del l’Era Glacial. El punt d’equilibri, que és el punt entre l’alimentació i la zona d’ablació d’una glacera, en l’època d’Aníbal es trobava almenys 300 a 350 m d’altitud per sobre de l’actualitat. La temperatura mitjana era mig grau superior a 2005. Geològicament parlant l’evolució actuals no té res de nou. El motor del canvi és l’activitat solar. També els moviments tectònics i el corriment en les estacions de l’any en l’hemisferi nord hi juguen un paper. Un disparador poden ser també els volcans.”

Since 1895 there have been ten climate scares, equally divided between five ice age scares and five global warming scares. The same papers have promoted the contradictory scares. The science is not settled. After nearly 18 years without any global warming expect a new flip flop.

Des de 1895 hem viscut deu pors sobre el clima, per un igual dividides entre cinc pors d’era glaciar i cinc pors d’escalfament global. Els mateixos diaris han promogut les pors contradictòries. Polar Bear Losses an Invention

The Polar Bear Specialist Group of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature confesses that polar bear losses because of global warming they predicted “scientifically” in 2005 were a necessary lie “to satisfy public demand.” Their official statement:

“As part of past status reports, the Polar Bear Specialist Group has traditionally estimated a range for the total number of polar bears in the circumpolar Arctic. Since 2005, this range has been 20-25,000. It is important to realize that this range never has been an estimate of total abundance in a scientific sense, but simply a qualified guess given to satisfy public demand. It is also important to note that even though we have scientifically valid estimates for a majority of the subpopulations, some are dated. Furthermore, there are no abundance estimates for the Arctic Basin, East Greenland, and the Russian subpopulations. Consequently, there is either no, or only rudimentary, knowledge to support guesses about the possible abundance of polar bears in approximately half the areas they occupy. Thus, the range given for total global population should be viewed with great caution as it cannot be used to assess population trend over the long term.”

El Grup Especialista en l’Ós Polar de la Unió Internacional per a la Conservació de la Natura confessa que la pèrdua de l’ós polar que havia previst “científicament” el 2005 degut a l’escalfament global era una mentida necessària per a “satisfer la demanda pública.” La seva declaració oficial:

“El Grup Especialista en l’Ós Polar ha tradicionalment estimat com a part dels seus passats informes de situació un marge sobre el nombre total d’óssos polars encerclant l’Àrtic. Des de 2005, aquest marge s’ha donat com a 20-25.000. Resulta important saber que aquest marge no ha representat mai una estimació de la seva abundància total en termes científics sinó simplement una creença amb reserves per a satisfer la demanda pública. També és important tenir en compte que, malgrat disposar d’estimacions científicament vàlides de la majoria de les subpoblacions, algunes es troben desfasades. A més no existeixen estimacions d’abundància de les subpoblacions de la conca àrtica, de Groenlàndia oriental i de Rússia. Consequentment no existeixen els coneixements, o al màxim de forma rudimentària, per a donar suport a les creences sobre la possible abundància de l’ós polar en aproximadament la meitat de l’àrea que ocupen. Així que el marge donat per a la població global total ha de ser pres amb molta precaució ja que no pot utilitzar-se per avaluar la tendència de la població a llarg termini.”
